Obituary for Harold Charles Baker

Harold Charles Baker
Harry passed away peacefully on February 26, 2018 in Palliative Care at Mackenzie Health in Richmond Hill. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Nancy, in 2012. He is survived by his 3 sons, Richard (Rochelle), Mark (Susan), and Paul (Melinda); and grandchildren Julie, Jennifer, Graeme, Sydney and Gryphon. He also leaves many friends earned from his time in Toronto, Ottawa/Manotick, Inkerman, and Kingston.
Harry graduated in 1956 in Electrical Engineering from UofT as a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. He and Nancy met at university and married shortly after graduation, moving to Ottawa where Harry left the air force and went into patents and trademarks. They moved to Manotick on the Rideau River where they raised their sons, bred and showed Dalmatians, and trained and field trialed Pointers and Setters. They bought and operated a 250 acre farm near Inkerman, Ontario while Harry grew his patent business. Full time farming and running his private practice kept him busy into his 70’s.
Harry and Nancy were involved in the Anglican Church in the places they lived. Harry had a calling as a leader for the Cursillo Movement. Over the last few years he was an inspiration at the Third Day Church in Kingston.
We want to thank his Care Team at KGH for the cancer treatment that gave him a reasonable quality of life for 5 years, especially Dr. John Matthews (Hematologist-ret) and Dr. Christine White (Nephrologist). Thanks also to the Palliative Care Unit at Mackenzie Health in Richmond Hill for keeping him comfortable these last few months, and a special thanks to Seniors For Seniors for keeping him company when we couldn’t be there. Anyone wishing to commemorate Harry can donate to cancer research.
