Paul was known for his sharp and inquisitive mind and his gentle strength of spirit. Many happy evenings were spent sitting quietly in the living room with his wife, each reading a book. At work, he was happiest in the lab, designing or testing equipment. At home, he crafted ingenious solutions out of wood or metal to meet particular needs: laptop stands, bike racks, custom furniture. His love of working with his hands extended to gardening: vegetables, flowers, and a collection of indoor plants all flourished under his care. His love of the natural world included bird watching and camping with his family. They remember him as a quiet, soft-spoken man with a warm sense of humour and a strong faith. He sang in many church choirs over the years, and played in several community bands and orchestras. Paul met his wife-to-be in one of them. He touched the lives of many, and will be missed greatly.

My deepest sympathies to the family and wish you all peace. I had the pleasure of getting to know Paul as a fellow engineer ( I believe we both graduated from Waterloo) at International Systcoms/Westech in the early 80s, RMS Research and Kaval Wireless Technologies in the late 90s. He was bright and creative with a dry wit. We will miss him.

Paul and I grew up about 1/4 mile apart in St. Jacobs.
Paul and I would get up at 5 a.m. to go fishing in the Conestoga river in St. Jacobs. I could see if his bedroom light was on looking through the kitchen window, and one time it wasn't so I biked up to his house and knocked on the door. Paul eventually came down and said he had slept in.

We also drove to Wingham one time and slept in sleeping beds on a farmers field by a river overnight. We fished it the next morning but never caught anything, our usual take. But under a small bridge in Wingham I caught a 3 pound bass which was a total surprise.

We also hunted together and Paul shot a racoon out of a tree, and when we got it home we found out it had been killed previously and was just hanging there. What fun we had.

Paul was a gentle soul who I sorely missed when we both had jobs and slowly drifted apart. It was a pleasure knowing Paul and he brought much joy into my life.

Sincerely, Ron Schmidt

Sorry to hear of Paul's passing, I worked with Paul at Kaval and found him to be a very nice and entertaining guy. I would know those suspenders anywhere! Rest In Peace, Paul.
