James Leslie Green, 79, from Aurora, ON, was called home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on Friday April 26, 2019.

Born on April 6, 1940 to George Leslie Green and Bertha Evelyn (Steckley) Green - at Mrs. Stanford's Nursing Home in the village of Richmond Hill. The third youngest child of 6.

When James was 6 years old he attended Carrville Public School - a one room classroom up to Grade 8. James graduated from Grade 13 at Thornhill High School in 1959. After attending Toronto Teachers’ College for one year, he started his teaching career at Edithvale Public School in 1960 - at just 20 years old. From 1961 - 1972, James took evening and summer courses to graduate with his Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Music and Psychology, from University of Toronto. After Edithvale, James then moved on to Oakdale Junior High School, where he taught for 22 years as the head of Music and English, and finished up his career at Elia Middle School where he retired in 1995. After retirement, he mentored teachers and conducted seminars in Classroom Management at colleges and universities until 2002.

Always a man of Faith, James had a very strong Christian belief and held that faith close to him throughout the years. He started out attending Richmond Hill United Church where he was a member of the Junior and Senior choirs. After meeting Sharon, they joined the Salvation Army (where both Sharon's parents were officers) and attended Earlscourt Salvation Army, then the Willowdale Corps. They were in the opening congregation at North York Temple where they attended for 30 years. After taking part in the planning committee for a short lived Oak Ridges corps, they eventually ended up on the planning committee for the Richmond Hill Community Church. RHCC is still thriving to this day, and they attended there until July 10, 2015 - the last day James was able to stand.

Survived by his beloved wife Sharon (Whibley) Green, his son James Michael Green (Katrina Green), his daughter Jeanna Michelle Eveline Green (Dean Savage) and his 5 grandchildren - Faith Gwendolyn, Paige Madelyn, Taylor Carolyn Drew, Viktoria Gabrielle Lillian, and James Dean Allan. Also survived by his brothers Kenneth Green and Carl Green, and predeceased by his sister Mary Pelletier, and his brothers Arthur Green and Robert Green. Many Nieces and Nephews showed their love and support.

A passage from The Daily Bread (part of James' daily devotional reading) that spoke to him was: "Lord, I am thankful that when I experienced trouble, you were waiting and wanting to help. You taught me to look to You and to rest in Your kind and loving care until you delivered me safely home." He also added in his own words, "I HAVE BEEN DELIVERED! HALLELUJAH!!!!!"

My deepest condolences to Sharon, children and family. I was very fortunate to get to know James and Sharon in 2014 as I was canvassing for the local campaign.

He invited me in to chat and that was all she wrote! After a lengthy chat, we realized that James taught at the same Junior High School where I attended however I missed him by about 3 years. He knew my teachers.

Most importantly he loved the Lord as do I. We had common ground in that.

What a sweet soul. He was a huge blessing to me in the last 5 years.

Sharon - what a wonderful Proverbs wife!

James is having a party up there now I think!

I am privileged and honoured to have known James. Sharon, my deepest condolences to you and your family. James will be missed and remembered by countless people. I am unable to attend the memorial, but will be with you in spirit Sharon. I will always hold in my heart that wonderful day when our church family witnessed James being baptized. He was truly a great teacher, and a great man. I look forward to meeting him again. Thinking of you a lot Sharon, with love. Lorraine Phillippo
