Phyllis Ambersein Sayers (née Jones) of Richmond Hill, died peacefully at home on September 8th after a well-lived life. Beloved wife of 54 years of the late Harry.

Phyllis was born on January 17, 1922, the daughter of Violet and Joseph Jones and dear mother of Keith (late Krystyna) of River Drive Park and Carolynn Whiteley (Alan) of Prince Edward County. She was a loving grandmother of Steven (Amy), Michael (Nicole) and Kimberly (Stuart) and great grandmother of Jordan, Caleb, Brody, Lucas, Kailyn and Benjamin. Dear sister of Albert and the late Orval and Morley. Lovingly remembered by nieces and nephews.

For many years, Phyllis worked with an entomologist at the Ontario Government’s Department of Lands and Forests Research Station in Maple.

Most of all, Phyllis loved ocean cruising and visited hundreds of places around the world from Iceland to Antartica where she walked with penguins on the eve of her 84th birthday. Her many friends remember her gentle manner, sense of humour and warmth.

Recently, Phyllis was honoured as a bomb girl for her work assembling fuses during WWII at the GECO munitions plant in Scarborough. Thanks to Barbara Dickson for her efforts to highlight the importance of this dangerous work.

Phyllis called Oak Ridges Retirement Residence her home where she participated in chair fit, bingo, cribbage and crafts and enjoyed the films, hymn sings and concerts. Thanks to the staff for providing such a comfortable and safe home. We would also like to thank Dr. Evan Ko who cared for Phyllis for over 35 years.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at Marshall Funeral Home, 10366 Yonge St, Richmond Hill on Friday, October 18, 2019 at 2 p.m. Visitation one hour prior.
