Obituary

Mary Sincarsin, long-time resident of Richmond Hill, passed away peacefully, in her home, on March 12, 2020, at the age of 91. Born in July of 1928, in Winnipeg Manitoba, she married her husband Louis in October 1950, who preceded her in death at the age of 44. She immediately assumed the role of family matriarch, and possessing only a limited formal education first managed and then sold her husband’s business and ultimately sought out a variety of employments, enabling her to support her two sons and ensure that both received university educations, accomplishing this in an era when opportunities for women were few.
For those who knew her, this is no surprise as she was somewhat of a tomboy in her youth and did some daring things, including travelling to Ontario at the age of 16 to pick tobacco, sending the majority of her pay back home to support her family. She also became a beekeeper, again sending most of her pay back home. Always determined and strong willed, she fought for life until the very end, and insisted on mowing her own lawn past the age of 80. She is very much loved and her presence, advice and experience will be sorely missed.
Mary liked playing baseball in her youth and was an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, which she actively followed up to her passing. She enjoyed gardening, oil-painting, working with ceramics, fabricating glass miniatures, and creating polished stone jewellery. An ardent reader, she maintained her passion for books once she lost her sight, and became a dedicated audiobook listener.
She is survived by her two sons Glen and Wayne and her grandson Bryan.
Please join us in celebrating Mary’s life on Saturday, March 21st, with visitation starting at 11:00 am, followed by a brief service at 12 noon, at the Marshall Funeral Home (10366 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill. Cremation.
